Why is Gutenberg called the Man of the Millennium? And just how important was the printing press to language, communication and society?
Digital text can be said to be transformational relative to printed text in the same way that Gutenberg's printed text transformed written text.
Take another look at this video about hypertext (Digital Text) by Michael Wesh, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University.

Wordless Story, and error in Wk #4 Assignment
Good morning class,
I'm glad to be back in town after a surprise business trip for KGW last week, and looking forward to seeing your "Wordless Stories" tonight in DTC 375.
I hope you have also been making progress on your Audio Remediation Projects. Now that I'm back, I'll send along notes today to those teams that reached out in the past week with questions. Final Audio Projects are due to be presented in class in two weeks, on Oct 1.
Please note there was an error in the Week #4 Homework regarding the deliverable for the Audio Project for 9/17. As correctly noted in the Audio Project Syllabus, the draft script including audio notes is due tonight. You previously submitted to me your Audio Project Plans. Thanks to Emily who caught this error.
Any team that wants to take two extra days can turn their Draft Script in by 6 pm Wednesday.
However, any teams that have followed the Audio Project Syllabus and have a draft script ready, I strongly encourage you to submit it and bring it tonight. I will set aside the third hour of class to work with teams and give feedback on their stories!
For your reference, here is the Audio Project Syllabus.

Update: Dr. Grigar will be teaching class on Mon 9/10
Greetings DTC 375 students,
I wanted to alert you that Dr. Dene Grigar will be teaching Monday's class on the Language and Translation module. I will be out of town at a business conference, but you will be in good hands, as Dr. Grigar was an Ancient Greece scholar, and will be a superb guide through our translation topic.
Reminders:
1. Email Exercise #2 (Translation) to me by 6 p.m. Monday to frank.mungeam@gmail.com.
2. Each Audio Project Team also has a 6 p.m. Monday by email, detailed in the Audio Project Syllabus, with the team's Project Plan (remediation description, team roles, who will do what by when).
Notes:
A. The next homework assignment, Exercise #3 due 9/17, is already posted to the class blog. This will be the third and final application of the work you originally selected. First you memorized it as an Oral exercise. Then you translated it as a Language exercise. Finally, for 9/17 you will tell the story with only Images (no words) to explore how images can be a form of "text". The assigned reading for 9/17 will aid you in seeing ways to "show" rather than speak or write your story.
B. If time permits in class on 9/10, I have created an Audio Soundscape exercise (worksheet posted under CLASS MATERIALS on the upper right of the class blog, to aid your team in developing the auditory soundscape of your Audio Remediation Project. Dr. Grigar will guide you through that process if time permits in class. If class time does not permit, I strongly encourage your team to go through the exercise outside of class in order to enrich your thinking about the 'sound' of your Project's story.
I know you will give Dr. Grigar your full attention and preparation on Monday, and I look forward to seeing you all on 9/17.

Translations Handout (PDF) posted
The Translations handout referenced in the Translation assignment is now posted here on the right-hand side of the class blog under CLASS RESOURCES.
This will aid you in comparing the effects of translating into different types of languages, and the effect of translation on AMBIGUITY in meaning.
